Supporting Rep. Obey's War Surtax

I just fired off this note to Rep. Ellison and Sen.s Klobuchar and Franken:

A quick note to let you know that I fully support Rep. David Obey's call for a war surtax.

In this period of unprecedented deficits, I believe the time is high - past, really - to ask us as Americans to feel a bit of pocketbook pain to support our troops.

Yes, there's a recession, but a small surtax on income, graduated so that all who have a net adjusted gross income on their tax return pay at least a few visible dollars, and those with more means pay more, is a a must-do so that the cost of our wars can no longer be hidden and charged off to our kids and grandkids.

I urge you to work with Re. Obey and with leadership to move real discussion of the war's costs and how we will pay for it.
